This unusual anime from the director of Akira opens in Victorian Manchester where young Ray Steam is dragged into a perilous adventure when a gang tries to steal a secret gadget sent to him by his inventor granddad. Steamboy concerns the effect of new technologies in the wrong hands whilst celebrating the spectacular animation potential offered by these same machines.
