Howl's Moving Castle (Hauru No Ugoku Shiro) film screenings at the Cornerhouse, Manchester

23 September to 5 October 2005

Dir. Hayao Miyazaki, 2004; Cert. U; 2hr; Subtitled

The latest animated journey into fantastic worlds, care of magician Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away), is adapted from a 1986 novel for teens by British author Dianna Wynne Jones. In an indefinable world where war rages, young Sophie is unexpectedly cursed and finds herself turned into a 90-year-old woman. She hitches a ride with the beautiful, self-obsessed, literally heartless wizard Howl on his amazing castle that crosses the countryside on scaly chicken legs. And thus her adventure begins. Once again Miyazaki imbues his world with wonder, intricately creating another universe that'll leave you gasping for more.
