Barefoot Gen (Hadashi no Gen) film screening at the Cornerhouse, Manchester

Written by Keiji Nakazawa and based on his autobiographical manga, this is the story of 10-year-old Gen who lives with his family in Hiroshima during the waning days of WWII. The family struggle to survive, the desperate lack of food and amenities exacerbated by the family's ostracism by their neighbours, due to their unpopular pacifist views. But on 6 August, their life will be altered in a way they could not imagine and young Gen must fight to deal with the fallout.
