Cult! Wild Japan film season at the Cornerhouse, Manchester

Friday 11 to Monday 14 February 2005

'During the 1960s and 1970s, a subversive edge infiltrated Japanese cinema, with many younger directors venting rage and frustration against the still prevalent yet outmoded social conventions. The result -- a goldmine of excessive and unique films, rarely seen in cinemas outside Japan...until now. The unbridled energy and passion of these films is matched only by their outrageous visual beauty. It's a smorgasbord for your eyes, a trip for your mind and a jolt to your film-going sensibilities.'

Cult!, with the support of The Japan Foundation, present the following films at the Cornerhouse, Manchester, which include UK premiers and rare 35mm prints:
