One of Ozu's most beautiful and moving films, this stirring visual poem is a close remake of one of the director's earlier silents (The Story of Floating Weeds, 1934). An aging actor returns with his troupe to a provincial town where a former mistress and his illegitimate son live. His current mistress is not amused.
