Doodlebug are a community of artists, musicians, performers and DJs based in the North-West of England, and who collaborate with people from around the world. In the past, Doodlebug have helped bring works by a number of Japanese artists to Manchester, including an exhibition of manga, a Butoh performance, and improvised musical performances.
Each year, Doodlebug holds International Doodlebug Day, where various artists congregate to create 'doodles' -- pieces of freeform art containing elements of graffiti, pop, comic and manga art styles. Previous International Doodlebug Days have taken place simultaneously in other venues around the world, including Tokyo, and have brought guests from Japan to Manchester.
This year's International Doodlebug Day will take place on Saturday 6 September 2003 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Guest doodlers from around the world, including Japanese artists Yuko Kondo and Tak, will be creating their art on the windows and walls of the Cornerhouse and Kro2 bar on Oxford Road, Manchester. Attendance is free of charge and booking is only necessary if you would like to participate in the doodling.
The daytime event will be followed by Doodlebug Presents..., a live multimedia art event at the Cornerhouse from 8:00pm until 11:00pm. Tickets for this are GBP 5.00.
More details about these events are available on the Cornerhouse and Doodlebug web sites.
